managing projects as perfectly as you can
chris kraft so elequently played by Stephen Root in the hbo mini-series “from the earth to the moon” had a great monologue where he was presenting the challenge of getting to the nasa department who will be responsible for developing the systems that would carry men to the lunar surface and back. i am paraphrasing but it went something like this “you wanna have some fun? come to my house and stand in the backyard with a basketball and i’ll stand in the front with a tennis ball, well both throw them at the same time and try to have them meet as they sail over the roof”. i love challenges like this which are tough, unprecedented and chart new territory. a product managers dream. craft concluded by laying down the mission statement “we have to get so good at these maneuvers that we wont blink or hesitate about sending our men up and that we get them back….EVERY TIME”
this is how i like to operate. you design, manage and market projects by constantly thinking in terms of exploring all the possibilities in order to identify every point of failure. strip the processes to the core in order to streamline and develop ones that prove themselves to be consistently reliable.
